I sat on the window seat and reached for the weathered book. Its title, An Autobiography of a Christian Mystic, was barely visible. The spine cracked as I opened it, and mustiness filled my nostrils. The sun’s rays danced across the page, highlighting a single sentence:

“I sought to know a gracious loving presence.”

The words lingered as I read them aloud and looked at my parents’ smiling faces. My heart filled with love and appreciation for them as never before.

As I relished the moment, I heard Karen Drucker singing, “I am healed, whole, and healthy. I am well.” I sat upright, dazed yet acutely aware of every nuance of that dream.

Then, in a flash of insight, I understood

that my parents and I wanted the same thing: to know the gracious, loving presence of God. Suddenly, the difference in our approaches didn’t matter. Those few seconds transformed my relationship with my parents.

I stopped judging them and started sharing myself more authentically, even though I expected them to judge me. But they never did. Then I realized that the judgment I experienced in our relationship mostly came from me.

Every day, I also began to affirm, “I want to know the gracious, loving presence,”

and those words filled me with joy. When I shared the dream with a friend, she said emphatically, “You are the gracious, loving presence you seek to know.”

That shocked me, and I protested, “I’m not that gracious or loving.” But I decided to do a test and created a new mantra: “I am a gracious, loving presence.”

I encountered internal resistance but affirmed it anyway. To my surprise, I became more gracious and loving toward myself and others.

This one dream dissolved the volumes of judgment I’d held

toward myself and my parents. It also enabled me to know myself as a gracious, loving presence and to know them as the kind, generous, loving people they are.

What an amazing gift from the only dream I can remember in years.

If you want to hear God speaking to you, then I have good news for you. I’m starting a blog series that features God’s direct speaking about learning to receive Divine messages.

Remember, these messages are already being sent to you. God’s part is already happening. This series of posts will help you to know how to do your part to have a Divine communication.

Let’s dive in and see what God has to say about the first step in learning to receive Divine messages.

Become Willing

The first step in learning to receive Divine messages is to become willing to hear what God is saying to you.

Many of us are willing to hear God tell us what we what or expect God to say. But what if the Divine has something else to say to you?

We limit our ability to hear God speaking by our past experiences and preconceptions. Yet the Divine speaks to us anyway.

Years ago, when I read Neale Donald Walsch’s Conversations with God, I spoke aloud, “I want to have conversations with God too.” And I was thoroughly surprised when I heard the following response:

“You don’t hear God speaking to you because you are only willing to hear what you expect to hear. You are not open to hearing anything new.”

I responded with, “Yes, I am open.” Then there was silence for years. Or as I’m learning, I perceived that there was silence because God was still speaking. But I was not hearing God’s voice, even when I tried to listen.

What God Says

Here are some nuggets of wisdom from the Divine about willingness, excerpted from my book, An Intimate Dialogue with God:

• • Be open and willing to experience what lies outside the boundaries of what you think is possible.

  • Be willing to hear truth even if it seems to contradict what you learned in the past or what your mind thinks is true.

  • You get out of your way by being willing to see and do differently. You each repeatedly make the same choices as you continue to see with the same distortions.

  • Be willing to ask: “What am I not seeing here?” and “How am I contributing to this?” When you ask different questions, you will get different results.

  • We are the God you have always known—not just you, Noemi Grace, but all who read this. Yet we are much more than you have ever known or imagined us to be. Your world is replete with God-in-the-box religions. Yet we are too big to be boxed. Are you willing to see outside the box, to become unboxed as we are, to see both us and yourselves in fullness?

  • The world needs to hear that God is here, available, and ready to work wonders in the life of anyone who is willing to be of service. There is no need to struggle to make it happen. Trust us….

  • Be willing to be of God and not of ego, to walk on the earth and be of the earth, but not tied down to it.

  • Are you willing to return to the stillness of unconditional love, to live in this stillness, and let stillness and love flow into your life?

Learning to Receive Divine Messages

As you can see, willingness is essential for deepening your spiritual experience.

Each of those nuggets of wisdom from my communication with God is worthy of reflection and application in our lives.

For me, as I share in my book and in my blog, when I met fear and terror with hope and a willingness to be of service on 9/11, I started down a path which has led me to receiving Divine messages and sharing them with the world.

The more willing I become, the more I hear God speaking. Yes, there are other things I do to help me hear God clearly and to hone my ability to listen. And I will share those in upcoming blog posts.

For now, look at your life’s assumptions, attitudes, beliefs, and choices. Where can you embrace more willingness to move beyond what limits you and your ability in hearing the Divine and learning to receive Divine messages?

Choice is how you live your life

The power to change your life lies within your choices. There is tremendous power here, yet you don’t see it or experience it because most of you choose unconsciously and powerlessly.

You have forgotten how much power resides in your ability to choose, and you essentially make the same choices over and over. This predictably generates the same results and leads to frustration and disappointment.

Many of you choose impulsively what feels good in the moment, and then you spend your time reacting to your ill-thought-out choices. Others over-analyze everything and get stuck. You miss opportunities because you either choose too impulsively or take too long to decide. Neither of these strategies helps you to make powerful choices.

Powerful choices come from a union of mind and heart

There is enormous power when your heart and mind work together. The heart senses the power of a choice and the mind approves the choice through a wondrous partnership. At times, the mind may also want to make a choice, and the heart then senses whether the choice is good for you.

Few of you know how to choose this way. This partnership of mind and heart protects you from either choosing unconsciously through impulsivity or becoming super-conscious and unable to choose because no choice seems right.

We are bringing you back to the starting point, to making grounded decisions through the power of choosing from love. Love is conscious; it always aware and alive. Love is wise; it can discern love from non-love.

When you use the love filter and see through eyes of love, you notice different options than you would have perceived in the past. When you see from love, you know which choices are most self-loving and which ones are harmful for you.

Learn to bring your heart and mind together through seeing and choosing from love. First see with the eyes of the heart. Filter out non-loving choices by seeing from love. Then use your mind to help you make loving choices, and everything becomes clear.

Get unstuck

Love illuminates those places where you feel stuck.  If you are stuck, you are not seeing from love because love sees the truth of the situation and shines its light on the best path. When we speak of love, we mean Divine unconditional conscious love, which is here for you now.

Get unstuck by seeing from this love. Then the path out of stuckness becomes clear. Being stuck comes from fear. You must learn to recognize being stuck as a sign that you need more love. There is no love in fear; move out of fear through seeing from love. Be willing to love yourself more with Divine love. When you do, it is much easier for you to choose what is most self-loving and to get unstuck.

You can stop being stuck today, if you are willing to learn to love yourselves as we do. Your job is to love yourself first with Divine love.

The more I practice choosing from love, the easier it is to recognize which choices are best for me. This has helped me to make different choices than I have in the past and has helped me to get unstuck in several areas of my life.

I encourage you to practice what the Divine shares in this message. You may be surprised at how much easier it is to stop repeating the pains of the past, get unstuck, and make powerful choices.
